Hydration: It’s All Relative (January 22nd, 2021)

We’ve come to the end of our hydration series on your guide to liquid nutrition.

You’ve learned how to make better beverage choices and develop healthy drinking habits no matter what your starting point.

You learned how to know your beverages.

No need to label any drinks “off limits,” but nutritional value does vary. Different beverages stack up differently, and you now know why you may want to drink some more often than others.

You know about the different kinds of water, sweetened beverages, carbonated beverages, tea, coffee, dairy & plant milks, recovery & performance drinks, alcohol.

You are now able to choose drinks based on your goals, knowing the amount you drink from each section of red, yellow, green will depend on what you drink now, and what your goals are, aiming to get a little bit better because there is no need to do a complete overhaul.

You had a chance to create your own spectrum of green drinks you like or want to try, yellow drinks you want to incorporate, and red drinks you want to indulge in.

You leaned how to add beverages to your personal spectrum because at some point, you’re going to want to drink something that isn’t on the lists. Or move drinks around to better suit your needs. You now know how to decide where they fit and their appropriate space on the spectrum for you.

The last bit of advice is It’s All Relative.

Remember, just because a drink falls in the red or yellow section, doesn’t mean it’s forbidden.

Make drink choices based on your goals and current habits.

Don’t worry about completely revamping drinking habits overnight. See earlier episodes about January at the gym, Lessons from a donkey in a well, Progress not perfection, etc

Find a balance that works for you.
